Creating Entirely Textured 3D Models of Real Objects Using Surface Flattening

چکیده
We present a novel method to create entirely textured 3D models of real objects by combining partial texture mappings using surface flattening (surface parametrisation). Texturing a 3D model is not trivial. Texture mappings can be obtained from optical images, but usually one image is not sufficient to show the whole object; multiple images are required to cover the surface entirely. Merging partial texture mappings in 3D is difficult. Surface flattening converts a 3D mesh into 2D space preserving its structure. Transforming optical images to flattening based texture maps allows them to be merged based on the structure of the mesh. In this paper we describe a novel method for merging texture mappings using flattening and show results on synthetic and real data.

Classification and retrieval of 3D models demand that the 3D models represent in a way to capture the local and global shape specifications of the object. This requires establishing a 3D descriptor or signature that summarizes the pivotal shape properties of th...
متن کاملData Fusion for Photorealistic 3D Models
This study aims at building photorealistic 3D models of realworld objects. We discuss the problem of combining a 3D textureless model obtained by 3D scanner, with optical images that provide textural information of the object. Recently, we have proposed a novel method to register an uncalibrated image pair to a 3D surface model. After registration, the images are mapped to the surface. However,...

The creation of digital three dimensional (3D) spatial models for the real scenes using image collections is one of the interesting applications of computer vision. In this paper we present some experimental results for creating textured 3D models from image collections using open source software packages (i.e. VisualSFM, CMVS, SURE, MeshLab, Cloud Compare). The images can be picked up with dif...
متن کاملOcclusion-free Image Generation for Realistic Texture Mapping
Photo-realistic 3D models are nowadays required in many applications. The 3D modelling pipeline can be imageor range-based and often ends up with a visualization of a virtual textured model. One of the main problems encountered in texture mapping is the disturbance in the images by occlusions, which do not allow the generation of photo-realistic textured 3D models. Occlusions can be moving (e.g...

In this work we focus on a new technique for digitizing complex free-form surfaces. Our approach is based on a flexible multi-axial laser scanning device and corresponding software algorithms, which allows us to generate textured 3D models of nearly arbitrary objects. The most important advantage compared to conventional reverse engineering methods is that both, the 3D geometry and the surface ...
